Partner Festivals

Scario Short Film Festival has made partnerships with some festivals and cultural realities on the Italian territory to create a large and inclusive community, different ideas and cinema to enter and interact with each other. At the base of our collaborations there is the will to create a festival circuit that can develop short film culture throughout Italy, to create integration between different cultures and to promote the dissemination of culture. We have established a partnership with the following festivals.

III° Il Varco – International Short Film Festival

The III° International Short Film Festival has already gained wide recognition as one of the most interesting and artistically challenging festivals in Italy for films from all around the world. The third edition of our “International Short Film Festival / Il Varco” will take place in Pescara (Italy) in June 2019 and is meant for directors, producers of any age and nationality, that have shot and produced a short movie after 1/1/2016. In only two years the festival has received more than 1400 films from 68 countries, made 6 screenings around Italy with more than 650 paid spectators screening the best short films from all around the world and giving directors the possibility to interact with a public of film students, film critics, directors, cinephiles and moviegoers. Last year they had the privilege of having Qiu Yang “A Gentle Night” (A Cannes Palme D’Or winner). Directors that got selected in this festival later saw their film recognized with big awards. For example, we were among the first to screen “May Day” which later got shortlisted in Oscars 2018. Aldo Iuliano and its movie “Penalty”, that was awarded last season, later won the italian Golden Globe and was shortlisted in the Oscars 2017. “Wherever was using this bed”, an australian movie that we screened, after our festival won more that 70 awards and was selected in over 170 festivals, including BAFTA and Oscar qualifying events. This year the jurors will be among the best professionals of the italian Film Industry. They only care about quality movies, intelligent vision, experimentation and authorial style.

Short Days – Giornate del cortometraggio

“Short Days” is an international short film festival that has been active in several italian cities since 2015. Keeping its nature of monthly screening, since 2018 “Short Days” has become a festival that has the goal of screening in cinema venues a selection of the best independent short films, giving them the chance to be screened in multiple cities through our partnership with many italian festivals. During the monthly screenings, jurors will award a winner that is going to qualify for the annual cash prize.  Each month, the new artistic director will go through the submission of the previous months also: this means that a submission is valid for 12 months. Selected directors are invited to be part of the jury Board of Directors of the prestigious “Il Varco Film Festival”, one of the most appreciated author short film festival in Italy, with more than 30 international directors already taking part in it, a community which will award its own prize in the festival and will meet during the first day of screenings.

Pollino International Film Fest

Screening in Castrovillari, in the heart of Calabria, Pollino International Film Fest is an independent festival that takes place in december at Cinema Atomic Café, directed by Antonio Romagnoli. The logo represents a “Pino loricato”, a special kind of pine tree that only grows on our mountains: the shape of this tree is the result of the resistance to any kind of wind or harsh climate.

Desenzano Film Festival

On the lakeshore of Lake Garda, in the 18th century theatre “Alberti”, a gala dinner with a short film screening with € 1000 cash award is going to have its inaugural day in september 2019, directed by the young director Matteo Delai.

Prisma Film Awards

The most famous monthly competition in all Filmfreeway, receiving thousands of films from all around the world from independent films to masterpieces, directed by Stefano Perletta, it hosts screenings every two months.
